What We Need From You

General Web Site Construction Information Guidelines

  • I need general text. Take time to think about it and try to include as much detailed description as possible. Search engines will rank your web page higher with more content/text. Do you have any brochures or flyers you can give me?
  • Send me any images you want to include on the web site. The images can be paper format if you don’t have digital copies. The more images I have to work with the more creative I can be. I will also need descriptions of what the images represent; this is a great way to add more text and content to the web site. Pictures of yourself, employees/staff, and satisfied customers can add a more personal touch to the web site.
  • Logo &/or business name. I can get the logo from any brochure, letterhead, or almost anything else, if you don’t already have a digital copy that can be e-mailed to me or that I can download from another web site. If you don’t have a logo I can design one for you.
  • About Us page: This page needs to contain a general description about who you are and what you are advertising, selling, or service that you provide. Include things like: how long have you been established? Who are the higher ranking officers or employees? Why did you choose to start this business? How many locations or service outposts do you have and why? What is your mission statement? What are your qualifications and specialties? Do you or your business own or have any beneficial relationships with other entities? Be as descriptive as possible. The more information you provide about yourself and operations, the more likely you are to earn the trust of a potential customer.
  • Contact information: I will need all of the contact information you want to provide anyone looking at the web site. Include: full name(s) and title, mailing address(s), location address(s) phone number(s), Fax number(s), e-mail address(s), office hours and days, and anything else you want to provide.
  • Services: What are all the different types of services you offer or provide or sell? This should be as descriptive and detailed as possible! Include any extra services you can do if after a purchase or sale is made. This should be the most important selling tool for increasing creditability, reputation, and more specifically fulfilling the user’s/customer’s purpose and reason for visiting your web site. Try to imagine someone coming to see you with a big sack of cash$ and saying what can I buy and how are you going to make me happy about buying it?
  • Inventory/Products (E-merchants): Make a list of all the immediate products you want to sell from your web site, more products/items can always be added later. Each item needs to have a unique identification code/name; an item name; item description; item price; any/all options available; at least one large sized picture; category types. Include any shipping arrangements, prices, options, policy and information; or if there are special requirements for specific items or purchase amounts.
  • Listings page (non-E-merchants): organize each individual listing with picture(s) and complete name description. Be thinking about how you want the web site to display them (in a particular order or grouping). What do they need to do or who and how to contact you to acquire the listing?
  • Privacy Policy (recommended): I can provide you with a general privacy statement. You can make any changes you need to have it fit your specific profile or requirements. Or you can provide me with one of your own.
  • FAQ’s page (optional): Any general questions you have received from or think someone will ask can help others to better understand what they need to do in order appreciate the web sites full potential.
  •  Bios page (optional): This page should contain more descriptive content about who the founders, people, or organizations that are directly related to the business.
  • Customer comments (optional): Any kind of positive comments, even if posted on other pages within the web site, are an easy way to increase the creditability of your web site and business?
  • Links page (optional): Are there any other web sites that you want to have linked to your web sites? One of the best forms of advertisement is by reciprocal linking, in which you provide a link to another web site from yours in exchange for a link back from their site.
